It all started in orange and blue for Trudeau with a win at the Selangor Turf Club on the 7th August 2010 when trained by Richard Lines and ridden by Noel Callow. It ended the same way yesterday under the guidance of C.K.Khaw and Shane Edwards with an 11yo Trudeau accounting for a field of thirteen in a Metro A Stakes over 1600m at the same track.
The Arexevan team had been toying with the idea of retirement for Trudeau for some time, however after every start when we would consider how Trudeau had fared in the race trainer Shane Edwards would report that the horse was bright and jumping around like a two or three year old. However time waits for nobody and with the complicated procedure to get Trudeau to Mark Chadwick's farm near Margaret River that involves a 60 day residency in Singapore it was clear that yesterday's race would draw the curtain on a great career.
Trudeau faced the starter on 83 occasions recording 12 wins, 8 seconds and 15 thirds. He amassed A$41,770 as a Godolphin horse in Australia before transferring to the Malayan Racing Association where he earned S$704,561 and RM427,752.
Along the way Trudeau picked up a Group 1 (Piala Emas Sultan Selangor 2000m), Group 2 (E.W.Barker Trophy 1400m) and a Group 3 (Garden City Trophy). Barend Vorster really got Trudeau firing in Singapore and recorded three wins whilst Noel Callow was the successful rider on two occasions.
Among all Exceed And Excel's, Trudeau with 35 placings had more placings than any other Southern Hemisphere bred Exceed and Excel and ranks 20th in total prize money earned.
The Arexevan team and the wider racing community will certainly miss Trudeau running around and we wish him all the best in retirement.
