Arexevan Racings' Mise En Garde has broken through for her first win at the Sealngor Turf Club with success over 1200 metres in a RM31,000 Maiden Handicap on the 17th February.
The 5yo mare by Dream Ahead out of the American mare Dawn To Dusk was having her eleventh career start.
The mare had a single start in Australia for Hawkesbury trainer Jason Attard before relocating to Malaysia in 2017.
Throughout her career, Mise En Garde has proved a very difficult horse for her trainer's as she has had a tendency to lose condition at the first sign of fast work in her preparation.
Current trainer Shane Edwards kept faith with the mare whilst constantly refining her diet. It's taken a long time but with the mare eating well and holding her condition she has started to put in some good performances on the racetrack culminating in her win today. At the mares current preparation she has had four starts for a win and two seconds.
The mare was ridden today by Z.Khairil who put in a 10/10 ride from a wide barrier. From the wide barrier Khairil was able to have Mise En Garde running in fourth place on the rails at the end o the back straight and positioned just behind the leader Navagio and race favorite Running Flame. Straightening for home, Mise En Garde peeled out to a position three horses off the fence where she was able to get the better of Dragon Kingdom and Running Flame. Mise En Garde won by a length in the time of 1:09.8.
Mise En Garde is trained by Shane Edwards at the Selangor Turf Club and owned by Arexevan Racing and Suresh Ragavan.
