CERDAN WINS FIRST TIME DOWN THE IPOH STRAIGHT

Cerdan 7g (Danewin x Folie DÁmour) brought up his third win in Malaysia from only seven starts with a close fought win in an 1100m Class 4 Handicap at the Perak Turf Club on Sunday.

Cerdan has a bit of wear and tear and has had two previous operations to remove bone chips and to repair a slab fracture. He needs a bit of care and attention to keep him at his best, so it is a credit to trainer Shane Edwards that he's been able to orchestrate a late career renaissance with three wins coming in quick succession.

The prize money at the Perak Turf Club is rather pathetic these days and not at the top of the list when planning races. On the flipside, Perak is the only club that conducts straight track racing in the MRA and for an old bloke with dickey knees and carrying top weight the race looked very suitable.

C.K. Khaw has a good record on Arexevan horses, having ridden our flag bearer Trudeau to victory in his last ever race. Having his first ride on Cerdan, he gave the gelding a perfect ride along the grandstand rail where he trailed the leaders whilst maintaining free running before asking Cerdan for an effort inside the last 250m. CK's 1kg claim to bring the carried weight down to 58kg looked like it came in handy with Cerdan able to stave off runner up So On with five lengths back to third place. Cerdan started favourite on the Malaysian tote at $2.60.

The win at Perak meant that Cerdan completed the task of winning at all four MRA tracks, Perak, Penang, Selangor and Singapore.

The weekend at Ipoh proved to be a good one for the Orange and Blue Arexevan racing colours when Morales 8g (Zizou x Love Attack) scored an upset win at $9.40 in a low grade 1400m Class 5 handicap. Apprentice C.T. Lee won his second race on the horse for trainer Kevin Coetzee. The win was Morales second in Malaysia and sixth overall in a patchy career that started with a lot of promise and a three length win on debut in Singapore back in April, 2015.
