The Tim Fitzsimmons trained Relentless 4g (Hallowed Crown x Gladwell) saluted in dominant fashion as an odds-on favourite in a 1600m Class 4 Handicap at Kranji on Sunday.
Leading rider Manoel Nunes had Relentless traveling "one out one back" in the run before finding clear running space at the top of the straight. From that point, Relentless easily gathered in the leader Lim's Dreamwalker and won eased down by 1.5L despite the steadying weight of 58.5kg.
With expanded rating bands now in place at the Singapore Turf Club, Relentless off a 66 rating remained eligible for another tilt at a Class 4 race against moderate opposition. With the win and the subsequent rating readjustment, he will now be guaranteed a start in the $150,000 Group 3 1600M Stewards Cup in June and the $400,000 Group 1 Singapore Derby in July.
Saturday's third up run made it two wins from two attempts over 1600m. Whilst there will be a big step up in class at the Singapore Derby, the horse gives every indication that he will be suited to the 1800M distance of the race.
The win completed a training double for Tim Fitzsimmons who has 26 winners for the year, six clear of reigning champion trainer Michael Clements.
Relentless has now won 4 races from 13 starts in Singapore with Prize Money of S$164,643.
